My heart aches for Lotor
And here’s why:
His whole life, he had been fighting to become something great. Everything he did was to fight back against the generalizations he’s been labeled with. But in the end, no one acknowledges anything he’s fought to be.
His whole life, he’s fought to become strong and independent,
Only to be labeled weak due to his Altean heritage.
His whole life, he’s fought to become like his mother, an alchemist, a wise and iconic figure,
Only to be compared to his father in the end.
His whole life he’s studied Altean culture and tried to learn their ways,
Only to succumb to the cruel teachings and ideals of the Galra.
He saved thousands of Alteans, preserved their culture, race and people,
Only to be acknowledged for sacrificing a few in order to achieve that.
He opened up to Allura, fell in love with someone for the likely first time,
Only to be immediately cast out minutes later because of a stranger’s story and accusations without hearing his side.
Lotor’s been through a lot. He’s fought to become so much more than what people label him as… and yet in the end no one acknowledges that side of him. No one acknowledges the good and the great lengths he’s come. Call him what you want, like him or not, take his side or not, you can’t deny the fact this man has been raised through hell itself. I’m glad he snapped and didn’t hold back anymore. Because if in the end people only see you as a failure, then what’s the point of trying to be anything other than that?
